Morocco Itinerary
For this trip, we'll be crossing the High Atlas Mountains at the legendary Tizi-n-Tichka Pass. These mountains are stunning in both size and appearance, standing at an impressive 2,260 meters in height. There are gorgeous valley meadows where goats and sheep wander freely as well as historic oak woods and walnut groves along the pass. The town of Ait His Benhaddou, where he plans to spend lunch, is located on the other side of the pass, which is reminiscent of the moon's surface. Famous films including Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and Gladiator were filmed in this town that is now protected by UNESCO. Traveling to Morocco will give you the opportunity to see many of the locations used in classic films, and the country has long been a favorite of Hollywood. The next stop is the ancient town of Tamnougart, which is located in the verdant Draa Valley. Tea service and a full buffet supper are included in your stay at this traditional Moroccan riad.
Begin your day with a stroll around the Tamnougart Oasis and breakfast on the Riad Terrace. Soon after, we'll be making our way to Zagora and Tamegrute through the Draa Valley once again. In all of Morocco, this area is credited with creating the highest quality handcrafted ceramics. A rare opportunity to be the first to choose from among Morocco's best artworks has presented itself. To reach Muhamid's outpost in the desert, continue along the roadway. Most of our tour guides were born and raised in this area, so they feel at home when we leave the paved area behind. Use a hand-built 'path' made hundreds of years ago to navigate 50 kilometers of barren environment. Travel across the Erg Chigaga Desert and the Iriki Salt Flats, two natural watering holes. These magnificent golden desert dunes span for 40 kilometers and rise to a maximum height of 300 meters. The sand dunes that surround our Saharan-themed camp seem to have been there forever. Spend New Year's Eve at the camp, where you will be treated to a delicious meal and the warm hospitality of the Saharan people. All throughout the world, people gather to ring in the New Year with music, bonfires, and, of course, a spectacular starry sky.
You must see the dawn at Erg Chigaga. The sun's golden rays reflect spectacularly off the dunes. Time with the dromedaries will commence after breakfast. Riding a dromedary across the desert dunes is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A grove of tamarind trees may be reached after a few hours of hiking across the dunes. Your guide will prepare a nomadic lunch of kebabs and freshly baked bread here in the shade. From here, you may go back to camp across the sand dunes for a relaxing sunset before a delicious meal and some tea.
Let the desert staff pamper you as the new year begins, and take it easy on the sand dunes. Dune climbing, sandboarding, and other sand sports
Following breakfast, keep traveling along the historic route of the Paris–Dakar Rally. Recross the dried Iriki salt lake on your way to a once-in-a-lifetime mountain of prehistoric fossils. Now that you're back on the path, you should go to Tazenaft. While you're here for lunch, you may also pick up some of Morocco's famed carpets. The highest quality woven carpets come from this area. You may now avoid the middleman and purchase right from the manufacturer. Its excellence is indisputable. Take the same route back to Marrakech, where you should be back sometime in the evening walks
